It’s the Middle of July

It’s now the middle of July and I didn’t write about the meaning of “adventure” as I promised. I didn’t write at all in June, which I hate, but understand. It didn’t feel right at the time to talk about anything because there was, and still is, so much distress in America. Don’t get me wrong, I talked: I signed petitions, shared information and donated money to the cause for social justice. That took place on my social media.

What has happened since the the last time I posted? The Black Lives Matter movement vividly protested the killing of many innocent black Americans. Those who believe white people have no advantage over black Americans fought back. Few officers have been held accountable for their actions, fewer have not. Coronavirus was starting to be contained in America, but followed by political pressure to revitalize the economy by opening restaurants and entertainment activities way too soon, the country took a huge step back. I will not be surprised if this state of mandated social distancing and mask-wearing continues into next year. Something comical that came out of all this, on the bright side, is that social media videos have lead to the exposure of many many white people acting like babies in public, which is really great (but unfortunate) entertainment. The name “Karen” is now used to refer white women who love to complain to the manager, but take it to the extreme, i.e., calling the cops on black people for no reason or throwing a tantrum because they have to wear a mask. Lastly, as of very recent, we have lost many celebrities in the last few weeks: Charlie Daniels, Carl Reiner, Kelly Preston, Elvis’ grandson, and most shockingly, Naya Rivera due to accidental drowning. As everyone is saying, 2020 has really been a year.

I said this in the last post: this is not stuff I usually write about. I think it’s important to keep tabs on such a wild time in history, though. Plus, as trust in the media dissolves, maybe future generations will believe my blog post over a news article. Hey, anything can come true after the mess that is 2020.

On a personal note, I am still on the East Coast and I am fully living a good ole New Jersey summer. I could not be happier. I think I’ve realized now more than ever that I truly do live for summertime, and it’s been reinforced that New Jersey summers CANNOT be beaten. I’m not worried about going back to work in person anytime soon, because my boss hasn’t heard a thing about returning, especially now that Los Angeles coronavirus cases have skyrocketed. I am still with my boyfriend who is heading back to his family and then university very soon. I, however, am too stubborn to leave the Jersey Shore during summer, so I will be here until further notice. My roommate flew back to the West Coast last week, and I am elated to say our apartment is untouched and my car miraculously is where I left it. I plan to fly back to California only if I get called back to work or to move out (which I will be doing if my lease is up and I’m still working remotely).

This truly is a time to be alive. I am lucky to be healthy, to have a job and to be with my family. My heart goes out to people who don’t have a family to turn to or something to put a smile on their faces in these times. I’m not sure when I’ll post next or what I’ll post about. Maybe there will be a zombie apocalypse. Who knows.

Thanks to anyone who read this ramble of a post, and good day to you all!

  1. Great writing, Sara. I agree with all that you said and pray every night that this
awful virus will somehow end. However, we can take our fun and happiness wherever
we find it, and for the most part the summer weather here has been good. Being able
to see at least two of our “grands” has been really wonderfull! Continue being careful
    and, I hope, happy!!
