I actually cannot believe it has been a whole week since I last posted. Time flies when you’re escaping your problems by crashing with a friend in New York! On a serious note, my week in New York actually felt like a vacation (It wasn’t, though. I worked my normal work schedule). I was able to let go of the things that were weighing me down and just enjoy myself for seven days. I left the city at night with a big smile on my face partially due to the fact that I love seeing my city lit up at night, but mostly because I am beyond thankful to have the friends I have in my life.

My week in New York was fairly calm at first, as I was working from my friend’s apartment with him. By the weekend, though, it was full of both planned and spontaneous visits with friends who I hadn’t seen in months, and some, for years. Some of my NYC adventures consisted of a brunch at Mominette Bistro in Brooklyn, thrifting, and two comedy shows. It was the most social I have been in months, of course, because we are still in the pandemic. Have no worries; I followed social distancing guidelines set by the city. While I am usually extremely nervous about doing anything during the pandemic, it was a relief to feel comfortable with where I went and what I was doing. I finished my trip to New York with a day of skiing in New Jersey, which is actually the first time I have skied in my home state. I think I’ll stick with the Poconos and Vermont. Nevertheless, it was fun to ski with a friend for the first time since high school.

I returned from New York one week after I arrived with a sense of peace and gratitude for the memories I was able to create. I am one lucky girl, and although sometimes it’s hard to see the bright things in life with all the scary, confusing, awful things that happen in the world, I never forget how fortunate I truly am.
Whitmanythought: Staying in NYC for a week truly helped me relax and destress. Obviously not everyone can escape to one of their favorite places for a week, but if you need a break, I highly recommend listening to your body. Take a hike, paint a picture, do something for yourself. It’s called self care and it’s in right now!
