I’ve never been one to make a New Year’s resolution(s). I think it’s just too much pressure to put on yourself with the possibility of being disappointed at the end of the year. And who wants to end a year by being mad at themselves for not reaching whatever far-fetched goal they planned? I definitely don’t. In lieu of a legitimate resolution, I simply go into every year with the idea that as long as I partake in things that make me happy and try to make the best out of every situation, it is a year well spent.

The main reason I think I never made solid New Year’s resolutions is because the world is so unpredictable, as was my life. I say “was” because I now am out of college. I don’t have to wonder what my workload will be like every few months with classes and internships. I generally know where I will be living (although I am about to embark on my fifth move in a year and a half unexpectedly). I don’t plan on getting a new job or making any huge changes anytime soon. Although, who knows — maybe I will meet my dream man who happens to be Australian and make the move Down Under with him. I wouldn’t be too mad (sorry, Dad). So while my life is still unpredictable, it’s not as chaotic as it used to be when I was in college juggling classes, a job, an internship, extracurricular activities, and a social life. With that being said, I think 2021 has presented itself as the perfect opportunity to make some goals for myself to work toward over the course of the next 12 months.
While New Year’s resolutions are super popular, and definitely do motivate people, only about 10 percent of people meet their goals by the end of the year, according to studies. So when making a resolution, I think it’s important to not undersell yourself in what you can accomplish, but to be realistic. Stay tuned for my next blog post about tips for making realistic resolutions and sticking to them.
For the time being, here are my resolutions. A quick tip: Putting your goals out in the public holds you more accountable than if you just keep them to yourself! How do you feel about New Year’s resolutions? Did you make any for 2021?
Here’s to hoping 2021 is a productive, happy, and SAFE year!
- Post more on YouTube (3x a month)
- Read six books
- Grow my new thrift account to 1.5k followers and make the money I spent back (check out my page here)
- Post once a week on my blog (with going on a trip being the only time I don’t need to)
- Wear clothing out of my comfort zone
- Play with my makeup once a month
- Keep up with my daily skin care routine! (Allowed 14 cheats due to the unpredictability of life)
- Send someone a nice message every day
- Be more selective when it comes to dating
Hey Sara ~
I always enjoy your posts.
A few comments in this one make me wonder, have you and Sam broken up? And where are you moving to again already?
Hope you’re doing okay!

Hey, thanks for the follow! Just wanted to let you know that the link to your blog in my notifications leads to a dead end page (I think the URL for that is different from your current one). You can fix that by going to your Profile > Account Settings > Web Address. Hope that helps!
