Thursday was an enormous day in the entertainment world. Between surprise music, new content, an engagement and more, fans around the globe were exuding excitement for their respective celebrity idols. There was so much going on, I thought I should commemorate the busy day by putting it all down in one post. Let’s dive in.
Taylor Swift Announces New Album and Music Video
Taylor Swift has yet again done something she’s never done before: created a whole album without fans knowing. Luckily for Swifties, they had about 16 hours to mentally prepare for this new music, which drops at midnight tonight on her site. Swift’s eighth studio album folklore was even a bit of a surprise to herself. In the first of a series of Twitter posts Swift says, “Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen.” She goes on to explain that normally she would overthink an album release, but “…my gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world.”
Along with the album will be the video for “cardigan,” a song and video she wrote and directed. The video, along with the whole folklore album, was produced during quarantine. However, Swift assured fans she was safe during the entire process. “The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling.”
Demi Lovato is Engaged
While fans new the “Sorry not Sorry” singer and Young and the Restless star Max Ehrich quickly fell head over heels for each other, I don’t think anyone would gave predicted this engagement (maybe Ehrich who tweeted that he wanted Lovato for Christmas in 2011).
Lovato and Ehrich were first linked in early March when Lovato left flirty tear-eyed and heart emojis on Ehrich’s Instagram page. They publicly confirmed their relationship when they appeared in Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber’s quarantine bop “Stuck with U” in May. Since then, they haven’t been shy about posting affectionate Instagram posts and captions.
Ehrich got down on one knee at a beach in Malibu and popped the question, and Lovato was quick to post a series of sweet photos late Wednesday night. “I’ve never felt so unconditionally loved by someone in my life,” she gushed. Ehrich also shared photos, sweetly writing “You are every love song, every film, every lyric, every poem, everything I could ever dream of and then some in a partner in life.”
Congratulations to the newly engaged couple!
One Direction Broke the Internet
Directioners aren’t getting the One Direction reunion they hoped, but band members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson (Zayn Malik left the group in 2015) celebrated the band’s ten-year anniversary with sentimental Instagram posts and a brand new interactive website. The website highlights the history of the band with rare footage from their first X Factor audition to their hiatus and everything in between. The site, which crashed due to a massive amount of activity after launching, also has new content, interactive playlists, fun photos and more.

In an emotional post of the bandmates hugging on stage, Styles wrote, “I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with some of the most incredible people, and gained friendships that I know I will treasure for the rest of my life.” Horan admitted he didn’t know 1D would take him to where he is: “When I met these four gents there was no way I thought we would go on to do what we did.” Liam looked back on his journey by posting what looks to be a cheeky text message he sent his friends or family when the group formed. It says, “Im in a boyband.” Tomlinson posted the first ever photo of One Direction.
While the men of 1D have all moved on to pursue solo careers (and for Tomlinson and Payne, to also become fathers), fans still hope that one day they will see their favorite boy band members perform together again.
Justin Bieber Announced New Tour Dates
Justin Bieber was enthusiastically sharing rehearsal content for his upcoming tour in early spring of this year. However, coronavirus caused the tour, which follows his Changes album, to be postponed. Beliebers were pleasantly surprised when he took to social media today to post all new North American tour dates for his rescheduled 2021 world tour.
Britney Spears Fans Got a Huge Update
Today the eldest Spears sibling, Bryan Spears, joined As Not Seen on TV podcast host Drew Plotkin for a rundown of all things Britney (although he did need to be pushed to give straight forward answers). Fans have been very concerned about the “Lucky” songstress as of late, and have taken to social media to start a #FreeBritney campaign. There is a worrying theory about how the 38-year-old Princess of Pop has been controlled her whole entertainment career and that her family—and especially her dad Jamie Spears—has taken extreme advantage of her during the 12-year conservatorship.
Bryan admitted that Britney has wanted to leave the conservatorship for a long time, but says it has been “a great thing for our family” and says everyone in the Spears clan has to make a “sacrifice.” In response to Britney’s father taking advantage of her, Bryan said, “In general, he’s done the best he could given the situation he’s in” and agrees with Britney being under a conservatorship.
The conservatorship is set to end August 22, so the Spears family will be headed to court soon to establish an extension of or the end of Britney having a conservator.
Meanwhile, Britney posted on Instagram twice today: A photo where she talks about disregarding stress followed by a video where she answered fan questions.
